My students need a small sound system so they can hear each other read poetry, sing the blues, and celebrate their learning while supporting the arts in my classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever had the blues? Third graders get them too. Why? Because, "When Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy either." The truly tragic part, is we can't hear these heartfelt lyrics because voices can get lost while trying to perform. But, with a portable sound system, all is not lost!
These are some amazing third graders who attend an arts integrated school.
We learn our core curriculum through painting, drawing, dance and song. We learn how art can be used to express emotion, tell a story, or even preserve a culture. We learn more about ourselves by learning about others. We make mistakes and try again. We are a supportive community of learners working together to create magic and a life-long love of learning.
My Project
We are asking for a portable sound system because we often want to perform, but sometimes our small voices get lost. We have a super small speaker right now in our room, and when we're singing along to music it's hard to hear each other. We also like to work in groups and manipulating one microphone can be cumbersome when we're sharing our stories, research, or poetry.
Each year when we explore poetry, it's so important to include The Blues. We listen to B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Robert Johnson, we watch a clip from "Adventures in Babysitting" where they sing the Babysitting Blues then create their own. They dig deep to find their voices, and a sound system will help their voices be heard.
With two microphones and a better speaker system in our room, our students will have the opportunity to be heard.
They love singing along to our song of the month, and rather than pass a mic back and forth, they will be able to sing together. I have students who play musical instruments and the microphone will allow students to accompany each other or free their own hands to play an instrument while they sing themselves. Microphones build confidence, because each voice deserves to be heard.
