This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 20 kindergarten students in a Title I school. US. Senator David Vitter said "I continue to believe that if children are given the necessary tools to succeed, they will succeed beyond their wildest dreams!" If given the opportunities and tools to learn, children will succeed at anything.

Our school has just under 200 Title I students in a Pre-K, Kindergarten Center.

We are in an urban, inner-city environment. My students come from high poverty and challenging circumstances. However, they are happy, energetic and eager to learn. Many of the students have never been to school. They lack any kind of early, cognitive learning opportunities in their homes. They love anything that they can build or manipulate while supporting their learning.

My Project

Many of my kindergarten students are being introduced to school for the first time. They lack even the most basic materials in their homes - crayons, pencils, markers, etc. We need 3-D magnetic manipulatives that support their exploration of math concepts. These materials will be used during math exploration centers. Students will use their imaginations to create masterpieces with these materials. Giving students materials and learning opportunities where they feel like they are playing not only encourages their love of learning, but encourages their natural curiosity and opportunity for exploration. Piaget said a child's play is his work. I want to offer my students as many fun opportunities for learning as possible. The more manipulatives in the classroom, the more learning opportunities exist.

This project will improve the overall environment of the classroom by presenting it as a fun place to learn.

Giving children a fun learning environment early in life will instill in them a lifelong love of learning.
