A typical day in my math class, begins with a whole group mini lesson. After the concept is taught or reviewed, students begin their independent work, where they get to choose the current concept-focused center/station to work at. Meanwhile, I am differentiating the concept to a small group.
My kindergarten students are the best!
They come from all over the city, and from different socio-economic backgrounds. My school is multi-cultural. My students range from being in school since the age of 2, to never having a formal education setting until they come to kindergarten. Because of this vast range, I attempt to teach in different aspect with different materials to reach all of my students. Some learn best from demonstration, while others learn best from hands on experiences.
My Project
My students need center-oriented math games, ten-frame manipulatives to expose and enhance number recognition, and different types of pattern blocks. My students will use the materials while in small group with myself, or in pairs with a peer. In my class, I promote and teach independence. Students are able to choose what they want to do while in the station time. Having these materials will greatly help them by providing many different activities to choose from, and keep them excited with the new manipulatives.
This donations will greatly improve my classroom by giving the students quality activities to enhance and review the concepts I teach to them in math.
By giving the students new manipulatives, they will be greatly interested and excited to use the new materials.
