My students need this Drone to get hands-on with math. Using the drone in TEKS such as volume, area and proportions will allow them to experience math while learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom includes excitement about math. My students are taking the necessary steps to be successful and I believe the Drone will add to their excitement.
At the end of the school year I want my students to understand how math is used in the real world, and why it is important.
My classes consist of 45 8th grade regular math students, 50 algebra students and 24 math acceleration students.
My school is a title one school with majority of students on the free reduced lunch plan. Bringing in new technology resources into the classroom will allow the students to experience learning in a way they never have or may never be able to. The students will be able to use the drone to learn about proportions, area of objects, volume, quadratic functions and linear functions. My students this year are striving to be excellent. My students are aware of the implementation of Level 2 requirements to be successful on end of year testing and are putting in the extra tutoring before and after school to reach this level. I would like to offer them fun and innovative ways of learning to help them reach their goals.
My Project
My students will take the drone outside and use it to find proportional relationships between small item that can actually be measured and larger items that are to large to measure by hand. My algebra students will use the drone to learn about quadratic functions. They will compare the flight height to the area that the camera will cover. We will be able to graph these result to create quadratics functions. My acceleration kids will be able to experience the math that is being taught in different way then what is being taught in their regular math class. This additional support will be a building block in helping them become successful on math assessments.
This will improve my classroom by being able to offer new paths to learn math.
I believe the more ways students are able to learn math the better the whole group will be. Students learn in multiple ways and if a teacher doesn't offer multiple ways they are not reaching all of their students. Bringing this technology into the classroom will allow me additional ways to teach math, ultimately helping me reach more students.
