My students need 3 iPads so we will have 5 total iPads for 25 students. They want to learn and use technology so they will have better job skills when they graduate.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my room is a room filled with adolescent energy working on their current project. Students are engaged, talking, moving, asking questions and listening to instructions from me. I want to use that energy and curiosity to open their minds to using iPads to create art with math ideas.
My students about 150 6th, 7th, 8th graders walk through the classroom door each day.
They have this room for them to create, be creative, imaginative with technology for 50 minutes a day and my goal is to use iPads this year to increase literacy with iPads, art and word apps, increase math skills with iPads, art and math apps.
The students that are in the class can be little sixth graders that are barely out of elementary school and unsure of themselves with the big 7th and 8th graders. This class is the first time they have had access to iPads for projects. Having a class with iPads to learn new skills creatively in middle school is a treat.
There are 8th graders that have elected to be in this class for 3 years in a row because they like a class that is primarily about being creative with technology. Then there are the 7th graders trying to catch up with the 8th graders. 90% of the student population is eligible for free and reduced lunches.
My Project
We currently have one iPad and one on the way. Students ask me to use the iPad and most students don't get a chance each day to use it since one for 25 students is not enough. I hope to get to be a 1 to 1 school this year with iPads. Students now use the iPad to Google information and pictures. I would like to use the iPad with math and art programs were students learn math concepts by making art such as using tessellation apps to make tessellation and tangram app to create their own tangram designs. With Amaziograph app, iOrnament app, students will be able to create radial designs that are symmetrical or asymmetrical with repetition and patterns. They will learn these concepts with art and technology easily.
The combination of technology & iPads & art is a winning combination. Learning becomes fun, easy and rewarding. Students will gain job skills by keeping up with the current job market that requires employees to know how to use computers and iPads. Math +art + iPads = success
Having 3 new iPads in the classroom for fun, informative, engaging projects will be the coolest class for me and my students.
They are fun, bright, shiny toys that students will use and learn without being told they can't and it's too hard for them. Before you know it they will have learned a new skill that will help them some day in the job market. My goal for now is to provide these devices with instructions. We will create many fun art/math projects and art/literacy projects.
