This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is full of bright, young minds. However a lot of my students overcome more before they come to school in the morning than most people do in a month or even a year. Because of this my students/parents are focused on survival not necessarily education.
My school is a wonderful place where kids can come and feel totally safe.
My students are bright and determined and always feel welcome. I am proud to say my school does our absolute best to take care of our families. Our teachers and administrators always have our "ears to the ground" so we can best understand how to help our kids.
My Project
My kids will be using colored paper, glue sticks and index cards for a science fair project that they will be working on. I gave out the packet explaining to students what they would be doing and they are very excited to get this done. However, a lot of my students can't afford expensive tri-fold boards for their projects. I thought this would be a nice way to reward them for their hard work and determination.
After giving out the packet a lot of kids were excited, however I did notice that some kids seemed upset.
When I listened to their conversations they were saying things like, "My mom can't afford to go out and buy this stuff right now." I really want my kids to focus on the project and be excited about it instead of dreading to buy materials and some are afraid to ask due to the answer they may receive.
