Making Math Magical

My students need math manipulatives such as the number locks, jumbo magnetic ten frame and the Apple Tree Counting Box to help learn to recognize numbers in an all new fun and exciting way!

My Students

My kindergartner's come to school everyday full of excitement and ready to learn. They know it takes hard work and lots of practice to learn new skills. We know that to become good at something, we have to set goals and practice everyday to achieve them.

My school is considered high-poverty with over 90% of the students receiving free or reduced lunches.

My students come from homes living below poverty level. These children are energetic, full of curiosity and just sponges when it comes to learning new things. Unfortunately, many do not experience a very positive home environment. Our classroom is a safe place where they are excited to come to everyday to explore and grow beyond what is typically expected of them. They love learning and would love new materials that would allow them to practice new skills.

My Project

My students need math manipulatives such as the number locks, Jumbo magnetic ten frame and the Apple Tree Counting Box. All the materials requested are related to math. I will be presenting large group lessons in math several times throughout our math block. The students will practice together as a group and then go to individual centers to work in small groups or alone to practice and master the new skills that I present. All the new materials, including the magnetic ten frames, the sequencing puzzles, the many number recognition games such as fun to count to 20! and Launch & Match counting game will all be used to create the new hands-on learning experiences for my kindergarten kids. .

Young children learn best by doing!

They will use the math manipulative to sort, classify, count, add, subtract and graph. The materials will help the students bring the new math concepts to mastery. Hands-on math allows them to create a concrete connection to what they have learned. I can see them now, rushing to get their favorite math center so that they can show each other what they have learned! This project will greatly increase the math skills that my students will learn.
