This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
First grade is a very busy time in the life of a 6 or 7 year old. They are naturally curious. With the technology available today, it seems that the children have a much stronger need to use it today.
The children that I teach are from a low socio-economic background.
95% of the children in my district receive free or reduced lunch. That doesn't take way their curiosity or their need to learn. Children are naturally inquisitive, I want to be able to help facilitate their need to know. I have 26 students this year. I want to help each of them grow.
My Project
The LeapFrog games will help the children fully utilize the LeapFrog Explorer's that we were gifted last year. We did some amazing learning with them last year. This year I would like to take it a step further. The games I have chosen will help students in all subject areas, not just during reading workshop. The students will be able to use the LeapFrogs during math and science as well. During those times, having the new technology will allow me to meet with small groups. Knowing that the other students are actively engaged in learning will be a relief. The digital download card will allow me to upgrade our LeapFrogs with current updates to help facilitate learning.
The LeapFrog games will allow me to meet the needs of my students.
Most children today are already "wired", so why not meet them were they are. These games are sure to be an asset in helping with the continued practice needed to be successful.
