My Students

In our Learning Commons, we are always searching for new and exciting ways to encourage our students to create, learn, and grow. We are currently creating a MakerSpace area in the Learning Commons for our school community.

Our students are curious.

They are thinkers and problem solvers. Many of them enjoy tinkering and building. In our classrooms, we focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). In addition to being scientists and investigators, our students are creative. So, we also integrate the arts into our curriculum. A MakerSpace area in the Learning Commons is a natural fit for our school community. Students will be able to use raw materials to create items to solve problems, to show off their creativity, and to just have fun.

My Project

Our MakerSpace area will have raw materials students need to make simple things, like bookmarks and duct tape wallets as well as (we hope) the materials they need to create whatever they can think of (the sky's the limit!). We have lots of glue, paper, crayons, and other materials to make the simple things, but a 3D printer would allow our students to create the items of their dreams. Just think of how fun and exciting it would be to create something 3D that you once could only dream of! The Learning Commons team would also collaborate with classroom teachers to plan lessons where students would use the 3D printer after researching a particular topic. We would also collaborate with classrooms and libraries outside of our building by sharing what we create via Skype and "Share Fairs."

A 3D printer will make a difference in my student's lives by giving them the opportunity to create something that they never thought was possible.

Our school is forward thinking and we try to do things "out of the box." A 3D printer will certainly allow our students and teachers to be "out of the box" thinkers. We cannot wait to see what are students create!
