Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Sigler Elementary is home to a diverse student population of just under 500 happy faces.
As a Title I Campus, with 80% of our population qualifying for the free and reduced lunch program, it becomes imperative that we expose our students to opportunities that will stimulate the mind and support STEM education. A diverse population such as ours, leaves teachers meeting the needs of a wide variety of learners, ranging from students who struggle to acquire the English language and others who need to be presented with new challenges daily. All of these needs and more can be met in our Makerspace!
My Project
My students need Two Sphero 2.0 App Controlled Robotic Balls, K'NEX Education General Construction Set, and two Makey Makey Invention Kits. We call it “Makerspace”, but it could be called the Land of Wonder! Defining a Makerspace is different for each school and their population, but the emphasis is on creating, exploring, making, tinkering with an emphasis on STEM education, while integrating the 4 Cs (Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking) using technology as a vehicle. We want our students to think critically, do it creatively, and collaborate to find to it yourself solutions for everyday problems.
Students are enjoying the experiences they encounter in our space and we are excited to present them with continued experiences as our space continues to evolve. We would like to expand our space with additional resources that will continue to advance student learning, expand opportunities to create and continue to provide opportunities that support critical thinking through hands on activities.
The majority of students at Sigler Elementary need continued exposure to STEM education.
(science, technology, engineering and math) The items we are requesting will work for all grade levels and meet the varied needs of all learners. These resources will grow and evolve with the students over time and expand with individual student abilities.
