Our classroom is small and our needs are big! Students come to Read 180 and System 44 to grow as readers as quickly as possible so they can keep up in their classes. Our lessons need to be colorful, interesting, relevant, interactive and in the moment.
Our school is an urban middle school with about 500 energetic, enthusiastic learners.
My students are in Read 180 and System 44 to improve their reading quickly, so they are ready for for the challenges in their academic classrooms. We are challenged to stay engaged as active small group members, as well as a large group classroom where independent learning is taking place in both the computer and reading areas. We need to manage all this learning in a classroom with limited space and resources.
My Project
Having a rolling white board will allow me to bring instruction where I need to be in the classroom. It will allow for both planned and "in the moment" lessons. Best of all, it will allow students to also show their understanding and mastery as we share this tool as a class.
My classroom is small, and with a column in the middle the set- up is awkward.
I have one small whiteboard hanging on my wall, and the screen I use for presentations, projecting teaching materials and videos, and displaying our daily schedule hangs directly over this board. Given the size of our room, and need for bookshelves and computer desks, my options are limited for hanging a traditional whiteboard. Students will directly benefit from this instructional tool.
