My students need magnets to learn, first hand, how they work. Magformers are magnetic toys that inspire creativity while teaching science!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Albert Einstein said, "I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious." I think this is the perfect quote for education because education is a gateway to anything and Kindergarten is the beginning of the educational journey.
My Kindergarten students are curious about the world around them.
They come from low income families and many have never left the little valley in the desert in which we live. Many have never seen the ocean, so I take them on a field trip to the Aquarium. Many have never felt snow, so I bring some in from the mountain. We watch caterpillars turn into butterflies and beans into plants. They are fascinated at every turn and it is magical to them.
My Project
I try and bring in a lot of natural science into my classroom, but want to bring in more physical science as well. Giving my students the opportunity to use magnets in a creative way will enhance their understanding of physical properties and make it fun! Magformers come in difference shapes which teaches shapes in math, they can be sorted by colors, and they connect, magnetically, to form any shape a child can imagine. Cars, stars, houses, the possibilities are endless.
Magnets always fascinate kids.
They can play with them for hours. But, not only will these Magformers be used for the science of magnets, but they can be used in math and explorational play. Students will be amazed at what a magnet can do. I can already see them walking around the classroom, trying to find objects to stick them to!
