This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students LOVE to find a good book. Unfortunately, our current set-up is not ensuring that each child is finding a book that he or she loves.

I have a class of inner-city fourth graders that deserve to have access to the same materials as their suburban peers.

These students are eager and excited for learning, but I need hands-on activities to continue to engage them. My school serves students with a wide variety of learning needs and has a staff that works together to provide these children with the best education possible.

My Project

This will be a great addition to our classroom library. Currently, our school does not have a library or "library time," so the only way they have access to books is through my class. I envision using the requested bookstand to display books that help to reinforce a mini-lesson or even a theme that we are working on. Students will be able to see the wide variety of options from which they have to choose. Self-Selected Reading is very important in building life-long readers, and I think that this bookstand will help students to effectively choose their books!

This project will improve my classroom because it will give it a more authentic, library feel.

Many of my students have never been to a library before, so any addition is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.
