Logic and Probability Games

My students need additional exposure to logical reasoning activities as well as probability activities. The games Rush Hour and Shut the Box will provide exposure.

My Students

In a typical week, my students will have about 15 - 20 minutes of time where they have the opportunity to work on other homework, read a book, or have time to themselves. Some students work faster than others and finish assignments early, etc. These games will be available for students to use.

My students are mostly freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in geometry and advanced algebra 2.

They are very good students with a strong work ethic. Most will go on to college and many will focus their skills to STEM related careers. They love to play games and interact with each other.

My Project

My students will be able to play these games after they have all of their assignments and other work completed. I usually have puzzles (1000 piece) out for students to work on during their few free minutes a day, and many students like doing those puzzles. These games teach logic (used in geometry) and probability theory (learned in advanced algebra 2). They can be played individually (quietly) or with partners. I will allow students to play these games as rewards for achieving their goals (which will vary from student to student).

These games may provide some extra motivation for students to strive to attain their goals.

In addition, they are great "thinking" games and will stretch the minds of my students without them even knowing it!
