My Students

Photojournalist Ernst Haas said, “I am not interested in shooting new things--I am interested to see things new.” Can you think of a better point of view for students? A camera would not only offer photos, but a new way to look at things. My goal is to have "Little Photojournalists" Onboard soon!

The students I work with range from pre-k through 5th grade at a rural elementary school that had significant damage from Hurricane Rita years ago.

After Hurricane Rita, our school had to move four times in four years as a result of the storm. As the counselor, I want to offer beneficial resources that will help and guide young student entrusted in my care. We have over 500 Pre k to 5th grade energetic students at my school this year. I work with the Jr. Beta Club, as well as with classroom visits throughout the year.

My Project

Technology brings so much to the classroom. "Empowering Students Through Art" meshed with the curriculum is my goal with a camera. Students love to learn and even more so, they love to create. They amaze me every day with their creativity. I work with the best students! My goal now is to incorporate the use of a camera in our school projects. As a counselor who works with anti bullying campaigns, as well as drug prevention, I know a camera would benefit us for each of these programs. We are always involving our students in projects here. Technology is a large part of our school and a new student camera would bring so much to the school. I know with a camera, more digital projects and project based learning could take place. The best way to teach about photography is placing a camera in their hands. The swell with pride knowing they have the power to create something at step 1, which lies with taking pictures. I know our Student Council would also be able to use it.

Ernst Haas said, “I am not interested in shooting new things – I am interested to see things new.” As educators, we know technology brings "new ways" to look at lessons.

One goal for me would lie with empowering students through art, with the use of a camera. Without a doubt, a student camera would not only offer photos, but a new way to look at old skills with "new" eyes.
