My Students

Technology and computers are a huge part of our classroom. I lead a semi-flipped classroom, where students get their notes from videos I record. It is hard for anyone to focus when the audio is playing from every computer; headphones will help separate the noise and aid student focus.

Our middle school is in a fairly large rural town in North Carolina.

Our halls and classes are filled with a mix of ethnicities- with some students who speak little or no English- and home lives ranging from affluent to homeless; 61% receive free or reduced lunch.

My Project

We are lucky enough to be one-to-one (each student has a laptop) and I use this technology as one means of delivering instruction. As a math teacher, students need my help most when practicing new skills. In a traditional math classroom the teacher is tied up giving students the steps for each concept. But in my classroom, students watch videos to get their notes and I spend my time in small groups practicing those notes with students. My students need 30 headphones to listen lto esson videos. Most of my students do not have headphones, so the audio with the videos is playing for the whole room to hear. Having a class set of headphones will allow students to listen to the videos without disturbing others.

Headphones will help everyone focus on what they are working on, without distracting others or being distracted by others.

This will help each student get more work done and better internalize and remember the material they are learning.
