Imagine 120 Preschool aged children entering through three preschool rooms each and every day. Now imagine having 20 of them at a time begging you to read them the story that THEY want to hear and listen to! Can you see our dilemma?
Our students are some of the most precious 3,4, and 5 year olds you could ever meet!
They are part of a half-day preschool program that meets five days per week, in a large urban neighborhood setting. Over 70% of our students are receiving free or reduced breakfasts and lunches.
We have students that are from all walks of life that come in with many different life experiences. With such diversity in our program, it offers our students the opportunity to learn compassion, problem solving, and celebrating differences and similarities all while developing in a learning environment that fosters authentic learning through play and exploration.
My Project
Many of our students come to school without having been read to by a parent, or guardian. Studies show that early aged students surrounded by rich environmental texts and strong literacy programs are highly correlated to academic achievement in the later years.
In knowing the fast growing emphasis in increasing early childhood literacy, our preschool team would like to take our program to the next level with the use of listening centers. These wireless head sets and cd/cassette players will offer us the flexibility and endless opportunities to thread these resources throughout our curriculum throughout the year!
With these listening centers we will be able to offer our children the opportunity to hear a familiar story in a different way, increase their oral vocabulary, listening comprehension, phonemic awareness, and so much more!
With your help today, you will impact the lives of 120 students right away, but you also will help to change the lives of hundreds of students in years to come.
Our preschool team is very excited to implement this new technology into the classroom, and begin to weave this area of literacy development throughout our day!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in this project for all of our students now and in the future!
