In the technology lab this year, I'd like my students to have access to technology across different platforms so that our projects can be fun and interactive while they learn.
My students are wonderfully inquisitive.
When given a project or assignment, they love to go beyond what is expected. So many of our students do not have access to technology at home and need the time at school to learn the skills necessary in today's society. I want to present my students with hands-on opportunities to create and discover the world through technology and at the same time give them the tools they will need to succeed in their future careers. This year, I want to explore technology through multi-media projects and tablets would be a great addition to help us do that. Our school is a family and we want to present ourselves to the parents and community, showing our pride and our talents.
My Project
Through the use of tablets, my students will be able to produce multi-media presentations throughout the school that are not limited to what they can do on a desktop computer. We are a school of 850 students and have limited technology to go around in the classrooms. The 4th and 5th grade students will work on projects that will showcase other classes in the school. I want to produce videos tied to QR codes or Aurasma where parents and visitors will come into the school and see our school in action. I'm so proud of our students and want them to showcase themselves. It's so much more special to have the students produce the presentations rather than the teachers do it for them. The kindergarten through third grade students could also start to learn the basics of production and also use tablets for additional practice on skills that are needed. They would be used for tutoring purposes as well throughout the year.
These students are so eager to learn.
When I look in the faces of each and every one, they literally soak up new information. These tablets would allow them to progress and have additional avenues of discovery. I want to open the world to those that cannot afford the Internet at home, much less an expensive computer or device that some take for granted. Our learning opportunities would soar with additional equipment as well as the potential for future success for every student.
