Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be Steven Spielberg? We'd like to have some drama in our classroom!
I teach fourth and fifth grade in a big city in Texas.
My students have moved to the United States within the past 6 months. I have students from Russia, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Vietnam, Colombia, and France. They are working hard to learn English. They love reading and writing!
My Project
My students need books, pencils, post-it notes, chart paper, markers, dry erase boards, and dry erase markers. I have requested sets of books that set the stage for the listed activities. I will put my students in reading groups. The students will read the book in their group. Then, they will write a play based on their book. This will be great reading, writing, and an oral language experience! Then, they will prepare props to act out the play in front of our class. We will invite our neighboring class to be our audience. I will record the play to share with our families. This will be a wonderful way to combine academics with creativity and art!
This project will make a difference in the lives of my students because it will give my ESL students an opportunity to experience success academically and creatively.
It will be an activity that they will always remember. I know all my students will enjoy this activity and will gain reading, writing, and oral language skills. Everyone will enjoy seeing their acting skills and the props and backdrop they make for the play! We appreciate your support and generosity!
