Mrs. S. from Leesville SC is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Library MakerSpace

My students need a 3-D printer to incorporate creativity and hands on learning in the library. We will use this in the Maker Space Moment area in the library.

My Students

We are trying to incorporate technology and collaboration into our every day experiences. A 3-D printer would allow our students to explore their creative sides, and have something to share as a final project. We would use this in our MakerSpace area of the library for use by our school community.

As a high poverty school in a small town, our students love to learn, but there is not much of a budget for extras.

Our students' love for learning extends into drawing, building, and sculpting. Many of our students are very creative and if given the chance to use technology, they would be able to build something amazing from their minds. Most of our students do not have access to up to date technology outside of school, and this would allow us to focus more on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) approach with our units of study.

My Project

Our students will work in teams with their classroom teachers, the art teacher, and the librarian to create designs and build projects related to our standards and the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum. They will learn how an idea can be taken from conception through to an actual product. A 3-D printer will allow our students to create small things like action figures for reports, and large items where only their mind is the limit to what they can create. This will also allow us to collaborate with other classrooms and libraries in the surrounding area through Skype, organized share fairs, and competitions.

We will be able to have a better stocked MakerSpace area where students can create, explore, and experiment.

We have a lot of traditional art related activities, but nothing related to engineering, building, and inventing. Students may find they have a passion for engineering that leads them to pursue a job field they otherwise would not have even thought about.
