Welcome to our library! Students are busy all around, working with technology and in groups. It seems more like a hands-on museum than a traditional library space and that's exactly our goal. The Lego Wall is another step in the process of making the school library an exciting place for learning.
We have an elementary school of 470 students, ranging in age from preschool through grade six.
Our community values respect, responsibility, and kindness. Each week as students come to the school library to research, explore, discover, and create they put these key values into practice. Our students are creative and limited only by the materials with which we can provide for them.
My Project
We are in the process on transitioning our school library from a traditional school library to a Learning Commons and are requesting Lego bricks. In a Learning Commons many different tools are provided for students to work collaboratively toward a goal. They may use books, computers, iPads, puzzles, learning centers, audio books to accomplish their goal. A Lego wall in the library is not only exciting and fresh, but also provides students with a new way in which to express their learning. Perhaps a students can express his or her discovery of the day through an artistic addition to the wall. Possibly the act of creation at the Lego wall will help that student to internalize a skill that was learned in class or allow them to be involved in a group project at the wall. That is our hope with the Lego wall. Using funds from our used book sale we have secured the materials for building the wall itself. We are just in need of the Lego bricks!
Our school library will become a more vibrant, exciting place to be with the addition of these Lego bricks.
At the moment we have an empty wall of Lego baseplates and can't wait to see what students will create once given the opportunity and necessary materials. Thank you for considering our project!
