Many of our materials are important to us and need to be saved to use over and over. In our Autistic preschool classroom we make and laminate items all the time. These items include schedules, pictures for communication, file folder games, story pieces, art work, hands-on materials, etc.
My class is an Autistic preschool class consisting of 6-9 students who range in age from 3-5 years old.
Many of them are non-verbal and have sensory, communication, motor and social issues. There are a number of methods and techniques used in the education of Autistic children that include modifying curriculum and materials to fit each student's individual learning style. The children in my class are visual learners, so we use a variety of pictures, charts and visual representations when teaching. We also use a variety of concrete and hands-on materials for students who learn well through their tactile senses and explore.
My Project
The resources would be used in the classroom to laminate and save teacher created materials, as well as student individual schedule pieces and labels for them. Being able to laminate these items in the classroom will help us to use many materials over and over again. It saves time from having to recreate activities each year. Students also use a lot of pictures to communicate, and having them laminated will preserve them longer. We laminate items all year long as we are always creating new materials and activities to keep learning hands-on for our Autistic students.
These donations would improve our classroom by allowing us to create more activities and save them for use year after year.
Our Autistic preschoolers all need different activities, and being able to create what they need and save them for use over and over will be a huge help to us. Being able to laminate in the classroom will allow us to individualize schedules and label materials for each child to handle without them falling apart with use.
