This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students do not understand why they need to learn physics. I want to use robotics to spark their sense of wonder and engage them in the problem solving aspect of physics and engineering.
My school is a majority minority Title 1 school in an urban area.
Many of my students come from poverty. They have not had the opportunity to explore robotics or other engineering concepts. Many of them struggle with mathematics and problem solving especially and do not think they need to know these things for life. I hope to engage their interest, creativity, and wonder by allowing them to build and program robots.
My Project
Using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit, my students will be able to build and program robots to solve various problems. This will allow students to work through problem solving and coding using logic. They can study forces, optics, electricity, sound and computer coding using the robots. One robotics kit will allow us to get started using it in the classroom.
Instead of reading about physics and working math problems, my students can explore the concepts of physics using the robots that they build and program.
This will allow students to learn to solve problems and spark their creativity and hopefully help them learn to love science again.
