My Students

My students (grades 6th - 8th) amaze me with their ingenuity. We use AutoCAD and SketchUp to learn the design process and ignite their imaginations. They draw 2D and 3D objects, learn how to build with different materials and take things apart to learn how things work and be inspired.

The future of design is about 3D printing objects as you need them.

My students would like to be a part of that future and the skills they are learning are getting them there, mostly. Currently, they stop at computer models, because we do not have a way to print out what they have designed. I would like to change this! The district is a hardworking community, and there are many in need, 50% of students in my building qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students have dreams of creating, there are students that want to design their own business, students that want to design fashion, and students that want to design cars. All of them would love to be able to create their ideas, to be able to hold them and see how they would really work!

My Project

Making their own projects, my students would continue their skills into 3D printing and refine their designs, bringing them into the future of design! I would like a MakerBot Academy bundle to support my class curriculum. Students would be able to create and take home their own planned out designs. They would be fully involved in the printing process: learning about printer settings, watching for printing issues and learning tips for trouble shooting.

Students would gain the skills to be leaders in the design field, creating, testing, and redesigning.

The MakerBot Academy bundle allows them to learn and me to continue focusing on their learning. It makes 3D printing easy! Please help us achieve our goal!
