Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The important thing is not to stop questioning." Albert Einstein. As our school is moving towards STEAM-Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math education we will need materials such as owl pellets and crickets to further our observation and questioning skills.

Our students are a diverse group.

76% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, 48% are English Learners, 18% African American, 25% Filipino, and 43% Latino. We have an average population of 560 students, kindergarten through fifth grade. Class size average is about 28 students.

My Project

Our school has a science lab that students will be using more and more as we incorporate more science in our learning. We need owl pellets, hissing cockroaches, crickets, meal worm larvae, snails, and a worm composter classroom kit to continue their life science studies. With these resources students will be able to do more observations of living things using science practices such as asking questions and planning and carrying out investigations. With the live materials such as hissing cockroaches and crickets we can act as scientists, asking questions and carrying out investigations like scientists do.

Using these resources such as a scope to observe birds or owl pellets to dissect to know what an owl eats will help our students become better at observation and questioning about the world around them.
