My Students

The choir room is a place where my students can shake off the problems they face daily. Berthold Auerbach put it nicely when he said, "Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life" - that's what music is all about!

My students are in 6th through 8th grade.

There are approximately 750 students total. Out of the 750, approximately 400 students are involved in music. We are fortunate to have band, choir & orchestra! The students here have many challenges due to their socioeconomic status (70% of the students have free or reduced lunch), however they also have GREAT potential! Because of the many cultures and languages represented, it creates a creative and collective learning experience for everyone.

My Project

The items requested will enhance my students music education greatly! The sound bar will allow us to hear the many genres of music we need to listen to and perform, with quality. The iPad can be used wirelessly through the sound bar to play music, making them a perfect pair of technology. The iPad will be used not only for music appreciation, but also for learning to read music, and assessing students' musical growth. There are many apps available to support their learning including; Garage Band, YouTube, Virtual Piano and Music Tutor-just to name a few!

These items will be great resources that will support learning music and encourage the love of music in my classroom.

As someone once said, "Teach music to the child and you give the soul a voice."
