My students need books, books, and more books! They also need Twist and Turn 3-Letter Word Builders. The curious learners in my classroom have just mastered their letters and letter sounds. Now, they are excited to read!
Watching a student learn to read is one of the most inspiring moments a teacher can have! My students are eager and ready to learn. Many of them are just starting to sound out three letter words and increase their sight word vocabulary. Now, they need books to help them in their journey!
Set in the Upper West Side of New York City, my school specializes in teaching students with disabilities.
My kindergarten classroom is comprised of eight energetic and charismatic students who are ready and excited to learn every day! These five and six-year-old learners love technology and using an iPad or Smart board, but now we want to get them excited for books!
To get them excited, though, we want to build their confidence with books they are able to decode and read easily. As their literacy skills build, more difficult books from the library will be introduced!
My Project
With this wide assortment of books meant for students who are just beginning to learn to read, I am excited to put together a variety of activities. I imagine my students walking into the classroom, picking up a bag with their name on it, and opening the bag to find five or six books individually selected based on that student's interests and reading level. As the student learns to read a book fluently, his/her bag will be refilled with new books that grow with the student's reading skills! I also imagine leading guided reading groups with these excited new readers!
With your help and donations, these young learners will be reading in no time!
A child learning to read is an exciting and inspiring time. Join us in this exciting and joyous journey!
