Sitting still, listening to a teacher lecture is outdated and overrated! My students are hungry for interactive and engaging lessons! By the end of the school year, my students' goal is to score beyond expectations on standardized tests in Science & Social Studies, and be prepared for middle school!
Our school sets high expectations for all students because all students CAN and WILL achieve academic success!
I teach a determined group of 5th graders at a high poverty public school in Baton Rouge, LA.
If I had to choose only one word to describe my class, I would choose eager. My students are eager to learn. My students are eager to be engaged in meaningful lessons. My students are eager to push themselves to achieve greatness.
Although they are willing to put in the "work" there are roadblocks along their road to success. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Another obstacle in their way, is the lack of technology available in our classroom. I have very little options when I have 66 5th graders, 22 per class.
My Project
Technology is a necessary component in any great classroom. The incorporation of technology will allow my students to see the world beyond what they know. The iPads are going to allow me to differentiate instruction for my students. There are so many apps and programs available for my students that will increase engagement, productivity, and learning. These iPads will be used daily during learning centers in Science and Social Studies lessons.
Technology is already a vital part of our everyday instruction.
As expectations increase, all of my students need opportunities to rise above the norm and engage in higher order thinking. They need to develop the ability to analyze, evaluate and judge their thoughts and interactions.
It is my job to fulfill the needs of all of my students. The endless possibilities that these resources will bring into my classroom allow me to truly prepare my students for their futures!
