My students need chrome books in order to do in-class research for argument type writings, which are required for this age group as well as typing them in class.
Imagine being told that your students had to write and type argument type writing pieces, but before this process could begin, had to research their topic on their own? Sounds easy enough, right? It would be if students had the technology needed to complete these tasks. My students need resources!
My students are, in a word, AMAZING!
I take pride in working with this "middle" age group. I strive to make reading and language arts as fun as I possibly can. I, from the first day of school, build relationships with my students. They know that I am there to do nothing more than teach them, but they know I genuinely care as well. I honestly believe that they would try to do anything I asked them to do. My students are smart and creative. Sometimes, middle school students aren't given enough time to be creative, and I try to allow as much of that as I possibly can within my classroom. I am so blessed to be a part of such young minds!
My Project
My students will use these chrome books to have resources within the classroom to search for research materials for portfolio writing pieces. Once these credible sources have been found, students are ALWAYS needing to check something on the computer. They may need a statistic that fits their topic for their grabber or clincher, or maybe even a quote. If we had these within our classroom, then it would take kids less time, thus giving them more time to work in class. Not only will these aid in research, but also typing. I take students to the lab (whenever the lab is free, which isn't often), but sometimes there are students who need a little extra time with their typing. With these in our classroom, students could finish up typing without having to be sent somewhere else. These could also be great for educational games as well. Having these in my classroom would make a huge difference!!
By donating, it will improve my classroom because it will allow students to have these resources at their fingertips within our classroom.
They won't have to go to "find" a free computer in the lab or library, and they won't have to go at a designated time in order to be supervised while they are in the lab. Having these resources within our classroom also means more time to work and learn since the educational process wouldn't have to be put on hold trying to find a "free" computer.
