My students need 2 soccer goals and a soccer ball for recess. Organized games like soccer promote healthy lifestyles and real-world/team building/communication skills.
My students are full of energy! They have a love for learning and a love for recess. I work hard to teach them all that they need to be successful 3rd graders. A part of learning is being well-balanced. Getting my students motivated and active in their learning is important to me- inside and outside.
I am a part of a wonderful community of learners.
Twenty-two students who walk through my door everyday and try to do their best. We are a part of a rural community so sometimes students do not have the opportunity or finances to play team sports. In the age of technology, most would rather play video games than play. I want to encourage students to play outside and incorporate learning into the movement/game. So many life lessons can be learned outside classroom walls, and I want my students to be able to experience as many learning opportunities as possible,
My Project
The idea for soccer equipment came to me while watching my kiddos play one day at recess. A student had brought her soccer ball out to recess. I walked out on the field and watched a 6 student game turn into 20 kiddos all working together, making decisions, communicating with each other, and playing hard all while having fun. The skills they learned during that 20 plus minutes of play stayed with me. I saw kids, that usually sit and watch, jumping in with excitement- eager to join in. Kids who are usually seen as different and might not make connections in the classroom fitting in and being a part of the group and being a part of a team. It warmed my heart, and I thought we could really be onto something here. Providing this equipment provides my students with opportunities to make connections, play hard, learn communication skills, practice teamwork, create rules/order, and so much more. There are endless possibilities with play.
Opportunities mean learning.
The more exposure students have to the real world, the more open-minded they will become. I want my students to be able to have access to this equipment to create active, healthy, thinkers. I want to promote communication with hands on learning and movement. Not only will this equipment provide recess pleasure but it will also be incorporated into my physical activity plan for my classroom and can be integrated into the curriculum as needed.
