My students need laptops so they can conduct research and strengthen their foundational skills in reading and math.

My Students

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills are essential to success in today's (and tomorrow's) world. In order for students to be prepared to enter that world of technology, they must have access to computers and other technology on a regular basis.

My students are a highly diverse group of third grade students in a high poverty area.

They are hungry to learn and eager to explore new technologies. However, funds limit my students' access to technology. I believe that one of the best ways teachers can help close the achievement gap for low-income students is to help provide them regular access to the technologies that will allow them to to strengthen the skills necessary for success in the 21st century.

My Project

Having laptops available in our classroom at all times will allow my students to have consistent and regular access to the computer. My students will be able to use the laptops to conduct research and to use programs that will help them strengthen and develop reading and math skills. Additionally, students will be able to access programs that will help them develop skills (such as coding), which will help prepare them for future success.

Access to a computer means access to a world of knowledge. These laptops will help students become more comfortable using technology and will also gift them with a wealth of information that can be accessed only through computers.
