In our classroom, we have Guided Reading daily, each day students get a chance to read books, the books are specifically chosen for each individual student in the classroom, for the student's own personal reading level. We need a place to store these books for students to read during this time.
Our school is a Title 1 school, that is over 90% free and reduced lunch.
Most students have not had experiences with books or school.
Students in my classroom are excited about learning, especially learning to read. Our classroom team wants this learning experience to be a fun and engaging one, with books that are challenging, yet they can also find success with. Providing students with individual book boxes that will help them to store these beloved materials in a personal place will assist us in this goal.
My Project
If provided with the book boxes, students will be able to practice the literacy skills they have learned in Guided Reading groups on books that have been placed in their own personal book bin.
The book bins would allow for the books to be at the student's individual reading level.
Students will also have a safe way to move their books from the shelf to a preferred reading area in the classroom. As well as a place to store the books in our classroom.
The book boxes will benefit students by providing a safe way to utilize books in the classroom, while also meeting each individual student's personal reading level.
The individual book boxes will help foster a love for reading in students and personal success in literacy.
