My students need 12 sets of Uppercase and Lowercase magnetic letters and 24 magnetic Write and Wipe Boards for early literacy instruction in alphabet and word knowledge.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Bohnert's classroom raised $448
This project is fully funded
I am a Kindergarten teacher in a high-poverty urban area in Missouri. I am asking for your help to supply some of the materials needed to support literacy instruction in my classroom.
Giving students the chance to manipulate the alphabet using magnetic letters would be a great help to those children who need to touch as well as see to facilitate learning.
We have already begun our letter work, sorting and identifying physical characteristics of letters, and then beginning to make words as we have mastered some letter sound skills.
Right now, we are using one teacher set of letters for demonstration and paper letters for students to manipulate. You can see how much your donation would help and be appreciated.
Each set of upper and lowercase letters would be shared by two students. Each student would have their own magnetic board to work on letter and word skills. This would allow me to assess their progress as I move around the room. I know they love to use magnetic letters, because I have a set of jumbo letters at a literacy center where they spell their names, their friends' names, sight words, and words from word family activities. They love manipulating the letters. After they create a word, they can't wait to write it in a special journal they carry with them to the center to write about what they've done.
My goal is to be able to give my students the same experience in whole group and small group instruction that they have at the magnetic letter center. With your help, this could be possible.
