Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Through the study of different cultures we better understand ourselves. I teach literacy to ELL students through the medium of music. My background is in ethnomusicology and I try to inform my students about the cultures of the world to better prepare them for life in diverse New York City as well as college. My students are from low income families and do not have access to all the resources that they need to get into college.

I would like to create an outstanding music library for our school that will help my students with research projects. If they have access to videos and books about music from around the world, they will be more inclined to study music in college. They can get a jump start on the level of research needed to be successful in the college arena.

With your help, the JVC Smithsonian video collection of musics of the world can live in our school. Our students will be exposed to the beauty of musical traditions. They will get to know one another's cultures and learn how to research.

Your generous contribution to our music library will teach thousands of students about the world of music making traditions. This is important because many musical traditions are over looked. Thank you for considering funding this project.
