Whether she's hiding from the stupid smelly bus, fighting with Meanie Jim, or being the boss of lunch, Junie B. is sure to make you laugh and long to read more! She is the one to motivate my still reluctant readers with her humorous antics and unpredictable days at school.
Eighteen wonderfully curious boys and girls at various reading levels are in my 3rd grade class here at our small, rural school.
In a class of mostly boys we have some Junie B. moments from time to time, but they always make the day fun!
Encouraging my students to choose a book they will enjoy and read on their own for pleasure has been a challenge this year. However, I have seen vast improvements in the past weeks, since I have implemented my plan from a previous Donors Choose project (Mysterious Motivation). Generous donors like you provided us with 3 chapter book series and a check-out system. All of my students have been choosing and reading a chapter book and completing a book report (traditionally or via technology) since we received our new books. While they are given 2 weeks to complete this project, I have many students that read their entire book in less than a week! In fact, this week a boy and girl in my class finished their book in just over a day!
My Project
I love seeing a new and growing love for reading and their desire for another book when they have just finished one! By providing us with these Junie B. Jones books, you will be helping me reach even more of my students! They have loved to hear Junie B. stories read aloud, and I know they will be a popular choice from our little library!
The Junie B. Jones books are also at a slightly lower reading level than our other series of books which will be perfect for my students that are a bit below grade level. The audio books on CD will allow me to further differentiate for my struggling students so they can successfully complete their projects too. Boosting their confidence can lead to more advances in reading!
As we continue to use these and our other books to complete a variety of book reports, my students will learn to communicate with their peers in many different ways.
Their reading, writing, and speaking & listening skills can all be improved through this one simple project!
