My Students
Do you remember what it was like to really sink your teeth into a book that you could not put down? It is just like the taste of a sweet, succulent peach - like the fruit from 'James and the Giant Peach'! Help my students take a sweet bite into books!
My students have very little exposure to authentic, high-interest, classic literature.
They also struggle with making connections to the real world. My students are 8 and 9 year old students who come to my classroom often 2 years behind their peers in reading. They have never connected to a book where they TASTE the story or use what they read to MAKE A RECIPE for life! The students in my class need your help to make reading a part of their lives and something they will enjoy forever!
My Project
I am requesting a class set of 'James and the Giant Peach' for each student in my class as well as ancillary books about peaches. Through this unit, the students will engage in discussions of literary elements and reading techniques as well as learn about peaches through the additional resources in this proposal. They will discuss questions about the story and investigate peaches.
It isn't very often that students get a chance to make a connection between literature and something they can pick up in the grocery store.
This story is very rich in both story elements and flavor. Please contribute to help my students develop a love for both reading AND peaches! :)
