R.E.A.C.H.--Reading Empowers All Children's Hopes is my strong belief that all students can be strong readers and writers when immersed in engaging literacy experiences.
My k-5th grade students are REACHing to become those stronger readers and writers.
As a Reading Specialist at a Title I school, my students come to me for intense literacy intervention. They are pulled from their regular education classroom and classmates in order to receive the individual support they need in R.E.A.C.H. class. It is imperative that I create an environment in which these students get excited about coming each day. They need to know it is a safe place in which mistakes are a natural part of learning and growing. In order for these struggling readers and writers to grow, they need to have the desire to want to improve. Creating a learning environment in which these students look forward to coming each day is just as important as the intervention itself. My central focus is to provide these learners with authentic literacy support that is engaging and motivates them to persevere through their academic challenges.
My Project
I am requesting 2 iPads and 2 protective covers to help support and motivate their literacy learning. Their level of engagement would drastically increase with the implementation of technology. My vision is to incorporate many of the Web 2.0 resources within our intervention time. Programs like TeamChat would enable my students to interact collaboratively regarding textual understandings while also incorporating writing and technology. Students can use iPad programs and features like iMovie to creatively display their literacy learning. As a Title I school, many of our students do not have access to technology at home. With so many Web 2.0 resources available, they would not only be improving their literacy skills, but additionally become tech literate. By implementing iPads into their intervention experiences, these students will be motivated and excited to become stronger readers and writers while also being better prepared for their technological future.
My commitment is to student growth and learning while providing support and encouragement through our classroom environment.
Yet, still embedding their instruction with literacy experiences that will propel them into stronger literacy learners. The opportunity for learners to enhance their understandings with iPads will only help them further in their quest to be strong readers and writers.
