My high students attend a continuation/alternative school undergoing a positive transformation. Many of them come to us extremely credit deficient and unable to graduate on a traditional high school track. They decided to continue their education with our school community through credit recovery so that they may matriculate back to their high school or graduate with us. We have had a lot of success by motivating the students to attend school through various school-wide art projects.
My students are wonderful, creative students that don't fit into the traditional classroom environment.
It will not do them justice to just give them packets of worksheets to complete. They need a directed teacher instruction to help guide them through necessary skills. We hope to have art materials to encourage our alternative ways of learning mathematics for this changing global economy.
My Project
My students need four iPads to help us promote a California Career Technical Education (CTE) curriculum in our continuation/alternative high school. We need to have one iPad in each classroom to help students learn about visual editing applications.
We collaborate with Actors Gang, ArtWorks LA, k9 Connections, and Red Hen throughout the school year, but we do not have the equipment to photograph/record these events and share with our learning community.
Students will be able to use the iPads to record and edit the amazing progress they are making in their social and academic learning environment. We will share this on our school website to share the progress that we are making and to correct the misconceptions that others may have about our continuation high school. There is a stigma that students are the "bad" kids, when they just actually need a more transformative environment for learning.
