My Students

Every class that comes into my art room is greeted with the vibrant artwork and unending enthusiasm for creativity. Students are introduced to a classroom environment where they are dared to be different and mistakes don't matter.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds, which only adds to amazing achievements we reach in the art room.

With so much history, so many stories, so many colors and languages, the ideas are endless. Some students need more encouragement than others to put their ideas to the test and not worry about making mistakes because some of the most well-known masterpieces came from mistakes.! Without art, many things in this world would not exist. Without nourishing creative minds, most technology would not have been invented. So why not challenge our future generations to run with their creativity, find today's mistakes and make something of them, build on an idea until it is a reality, and have the courage to stand up for what you believe in. All of these are qualities that inspired me to become an Art teacher; I want to inspire a passion in my students to follow their dreams and add to color and beauty of their community and the world! "The Earth without ART is just plain "Eh"!"

My Project

One of our goals as an education system is to encourage learning and passions in STEM fields-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This initiative is supported by the U.S. Dept of Education to help prepare our students for the competitive worldwide job market. Without exposure to the range of careers and studies that fall under these 4 categories, students are unable to build further interest, or students who do have these passions are left un-nurtured. I believe Art is a subject that not only supports ideas in these fields, but is one of greatest igniter's of passion in students that exists. Having iPad technology available in my classroom for projects like 3-D design/architecture, digital animation, etc, my students will be introduced to completely new fields and career paths that they may have never realized Art could connect to. It is my hope that my students will not just become the next great artists, but the next inventors, scientists, engineers, and minds.

STEM can also be supported in so many ways in the Art room.

Art creates so many valuable and transferrable skills in our students, like how to solve problems differently, how to question and challenge the norms, while also giving them the courage to try new things and the conviction to defend those creations. Art shows students the value of human ideas, inspirations, inventions and creations. These skills will help our students achieve success in any career path they choose in the future.
