This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Can we use your iPad today?" This is a frequently asked question heard in my room during center time. My students have been fortunate to be able to use PC laptop computers in our classroom, but there are many applications that are only available on iPads.
My students are enthusiastic, eager learners who are captivated and motivated by the technology of the iPad.My students have many different individual needs and learning styles, thus having a multi-media learning device in the classroom is essential.
My students are so captivated by technology and nothing excites them more than having the extra special opportunity to use an iPad in the classroom. Ideally, I would like to have a small group set of iPads for the kids to work with for centers activities and for their research projects for our big non-fiction reading and writing units this year. Multi-media learning devices such as the iPad can help fill the gaps in many ways particularly for my students who learn best through visual, tactile, and auditory experiences. Additionally, 21st century learners must learn to use technology efficiently. I will be able to help them do that with the funding of this project.
My Project
Our school has recently transitioned to the California Common Core State Standards which place heavy emphasis on technology. It is my job to help my students become familiar with this technology and become technology savvy 21st century learners. Our school has adopted some fantastic online math and reading programs. By having 4 iPads, instruction in these areas could be differentiated by assigning my diverse learners specific lessons on the iPads as an extension of our classwork. My students would also use the iPads for reading fluency, math facts practice, non-fiction research, and even basic coding! Most of their assigned projects involve the implementation of technology.
Since my students only have the opportunity to use my one teacher iPad, not all students are able to get the full experience.
By having iPads in our classroom full time, I will be able to better accommodate all of my unique learners and their various individual needs. The iPads would allow me to add valuable extensions to lessons. Having these devices in our classroom full time will add everyday excitement and passion for becoming the 21st century learners I know my students can be!
