This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a pediatric Occupational Therapist in the school setting. I service 45-50 students a week and travel to 5 buildings. I work on a variety of skills needed to be successful in the classroom setting. These skills include fine motor, gross motor, visual motor, and self care.
I work with students with Individualized Eduction Plans with a variety of diagnoses including Autism, Intellectual Disability, ADHD, and many others.
We work on skills to be successful in the school setting such as handwriting, cutting, feeding, and self care skills. These students are multi-sensory learners who benefit from repetition and learning in a variety of ways. Many of them are visual learners. By the end of the 2104-2015 school year, I would like for my students to reach their annual IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals.
My Project
An iPad offers many applications that can be used for occupational therapy. These include visual motor and dexterity, handwriting and letter formations, and writing numbers. There are many applications that help multi-sensory learners and would be beneficial to the students I service.
Donations for this project will help my students to reach their annual IEP goals.
It will help give them a multi-sensory approach to learning that is needed for them to be successful.
