My classroom is one where my students are encouraged to explore, experiment, and learn through doing. A big challenge that we have is lack of technology. My students love learning and I want them to have every opportunity to do so. They need experience with technology to thrive in today's society.
My students are second graders who love to learn.
We haven't received technology money from the state in several years, so everything we have we raise ourselves. We have numerous fundraisers, but it just isn't enough. My students are eager to use technology. They use our iPad to play educational games, take Accelerated Reader tests, read online books, and research. They love exploring and learning through experimentation. My students surprise me all the time with their insight. I love listening to their ideas and their thinking. I continuously learn from them.
My school struggles to keep up with technology. We have limited resources and we just haven't been able to keep up with technology. We have very few desktop computers for our kids and one iPad per classroom. We love our kids and want them to have every opportunity to succeed.
My Project
My students will use this iPad Mini to play educational games. There are numerous games available to help children in reading, spelling, math, science, social studies, and more. They play a game called "Stack the States" to learn geography. They play "Meerkat Math" to practice math skills. "Brain Pop Jr." teaches social studies and science facts. My students practice their spelling and vocabulary words with "Spelling City". There are so many games that can be used for learning. They teach valuable skills and hold the kids' attention.
They will also be able to take Accelerated Reader tests on the iPad. AR tests can be taken on library books or classroom books. These tests are used to assess comprehension skills.
My children would use the iPad to research online. We just completed a project on rain forest animals and an iPad would be a valuable asset when doing this kind of research.
Donations for this iPad Mini will allow my students to have access to technology that they do not have now.
Our children were born in a time when technology skills are necessary for success. My students need the opportunity to explore technology in the safety of our classroom. They will use this iPad to learn valuable skills and gain information to help them succeed in the world today.
