My students need an iPad, an iPad case, two Nexus 7 cases, screen protectors, and headphones to support our quest to bring technology in to our kindergarten classroom.
My students are young, energetic, and excited about learning. They come to school each day with a thirst for knowledge.
Our school is located in an urban area of a mid-west state.
Many of the students come from low-income homes. Housing can change for the students on a monthly basis as they may need to move into a homeless shelter, in with relatives, friends, etc.
Many of my students lack educational support at home. We work diligently at school to keep the children excited and engaged throughout the school day. Currently we use worksheets to help the children apply new concepts, but worksheets are not developmentally appropriate for children in kindergarten. The children have a hard time staying engaged for long periods of time.
My Project
We have slowly been funding iPads for our classroom through DonorsChoose.org. Currently we have 3 new iPads that arrived over Spring Break. We have begun to use the iPads in large Group, small Group, and independent learning activities. The children have been excited and highly engaged by these new learning tools.
With this project we have requested an additional iPad, iPad case, headphones, and screen protector. If this project is funded we will have 4 iPads to use in the classroom.
We have also requested two Nexus 7 cases, screen protectors, and headphones. Two Nexus 7 devices were graciously donated to our classroom, but we need protective cases and screen protectors to keep the devices in good condition for years.
These new devices will be a wonderful way for us to tailor educational applications for each child at their ability level. We will also be able to check each child's progress and decide if they need to review a specific topic or if they are ready to move on.
Our iPad/Nexus 7 project will allow us to adjust each child's lesson to their current ability level.
Our high level, mid level, and lower level students will all have applications that challenge them and allow them to move at their own pace.
