My favorite quote is “Tell me and I will forget; Show me and I will learn; Involve me and I will understand.” a Teton Lakota Indian saying. As an educator, I believe this to be true for everyone. With a plan of action, I'll learn about the Windows 8 system and project based learning lessons.
I am a 4th grade team teacher at a Pre K-fifth grade school.
Our town is known to be a close knit community with a lot of parental support. Our feeder school has more than 500 students. As a school, we have worked very hard to move forward with technology school campaigns. As a school community, the realization of how important technology is in schools is evident. Our leaders and teachers are always working to move forward to gain technology resources. As our school technology motto says, we "keep our eye on technology" at all times! Like me, my students are drawn toward creative technology projects & we would love to create powerful, curriculum based video projects. Using project based learning activities, it could help both my students and I eventually. As the student, I would need to learn more about Windows 8 laptop and project based learning first.
My Project
As a teacher who loves technology, I know bringing resources such as a Windows 8 laptop in my classroom, would enhance future lessons for my students. However, to successfully implement these resources, I first need to be a student again. In speaking with my school tech leader, we set up a lesson plan in terms of Professional Development. This includes meeting 3 times. Both 1 to 1 & with small groups. With the use of the requested Windows 8 laptop and mouse in this grant, my mentor will guide me with my personal learning path. Our plan of action for this journey lies with striving for 2 goals: The first goal includes learning the hardware & new software of Windows 8. After learning the physical aspects of this resources, the 2nd goal would offer effective project-based learning activities for my students using this Windows 8 machine later.
Together you and I have an opportunity that would enable me to strive for two goals.
To become a better educator, I need to step back and become involved as a student again. As the Teton Lakota saying goes “Tell me & I will forget; Show me and I will learn; Involve me and I will understand.” By involving me in this process, I can learn! With the help of my mentor guiding me & your funding, I will strive to become a better educator. Will you consider helping me on this unique journey?
