"You can't just give someone a creativity injection. You have to create an environment for curiosity and a way to encourage people and get the best out of them."-Ken Robinson
I strive to ignite the flame of ingenuity when my students enter the classroom by providing a space that fosters learning.
Imagine wiggly, giggly 9 and 10 year olds greeting you every morning with sparkly smiles, eager stories from the moment they last saw you, and hugs and high-fives.
I am so lucky to have these kids remind me each day of why I love teaching so much; they are hungry to learn and eager to explore the potential of their minds.
Our school begins the day with music and dance; every student and teacher is on the black top moving to music and ending the 15 minutes with stretches and positive affirmations about who we are as people, "It feels great to be me." Our school firmly believes in supporting our diverse population of learners and using movement as one of the ways to tap into the creativity and critical thinking minds of our students. Together we dance, stretch, balance, and laugh together. This unifies our students who come from a variety of cultural and economical backgrounds, as well as academic levels too. Together we can be learners and problem solvers.
My Project
From the black top, my students walk into the classroom where we begin our day sitting together. In this 10 minutes of feeling out my students, I am able to observe and note the smiles, the sad eyes, the kept hair or the unkept hair, the new clothes, the same clothes from yesterday, and find out a tad about what life handed them from when they left my classroom to the morning we are back together.
The new wobble chairs and wobble pads will be great for students when we are sitting on the floor or getting to work. These types of chairs allow for the students to work out any nervous, excited, or anxious energy they have from home or in anticipation for the day. It provides the body a functional way for energy to be released and promoting the mind to focus. This is also true for me, which is why there is an adult wobble chair wanted too.
The Chromebook Charger allows our class set of Chromebooks to be safe in a locked place and charged so they are ready for students to use.
The class will benefit from these new tools because of the efficiency they will invite.
The Chromebooks have been an amazing addition to our classroom learning, however finding ways to keep them safe and charged has been a bit cumbersome. Having an efficient tool to make the transitions of getting a Chromebook, returning a Chromebook, and charging a Chromebook is needed.
The students and the teacher are wiggly and energetic so the new wobble chairs will channel the energy towards projects.
