My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered this treasure, mainly because reading is a struggle! However, as their special education teacher this year, I am determined to change that!
Although my students are tiny in size, they are equipped with gigantic, outrageous, and spunky personalities!
My class is rambunctious, energetic, inquisitive, and chatty - everything I've come to expect after 7 years of teaching! They are incredible and I am thankful to be their teacher this year. These children have countless abilities but also struggle with many academic tasks. Although chronologically the kids are in first and second grade, several are reading and comprehending below a kindergarten level. Often it is difficult to sustain their attention during activities that build upon essential reading skills. This is where I need your help. The savvy technology teacher at my school informed me that my future little sponges ADORE technology. How great would it be to provide my students with their own learning tablet?!
My Project
LeapPad Explorers are the perfect resource for my students with special needs. A LeapPad Explorer is a personalized learning tablet that features a broad curriculum. The skill levels adjust automatically to each child's pace as they navigate the learning content. The LeapPad Explorer is an engaging supplement to any reading, language arts, science or math curriculum and supports multiple learning modalities. They will also help create hands-on, technology-based centers for independent and small group work. The LeapPad Explorer also supports differentiated instruction in mixed ability classrooms by offering an accessible and engaging learning technology that motivates students to achieve. I will also be able to track and monitor each student's progress, strengths, and weaknesses, which will allow me to focus and target the certain needs of that student.
For many of us, reading is a skill we take for granted.
We know being literate opens doors, transforms lives, and that education is priceless. Supporting this project will change the lives of the children in my class. Who knows where the influence will end? My appreciation is endless. Thank you for your anticipated support.
