Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students focus on the traditional sports of soccer, football, basketball, etc. With lacrosse being a new and upcoming sport to our area, my students do not have the financial means to go to summer camps to try this sport out. I like to open my students eyes up to the world!
My students are middle school students aged 11 - 14.
We are a low income school with very limited budgets, and with very limited resources for our students to be physically active outside of the school day. By bringing new equipment into the school, we are offering our students with a more diverse experience.
My Project
During the fall and spring quarters, we are outside utilizing the field space. The students mainly play the traditional sports, but as new sports arise, we try to teach them the basics and it will also help them with their hand-eye coordination. This equipment (Nascos Lacrosse Pack and lacrosse balls) will be used with my classes. We have 750 students in our building and we want all our students to be able to learn new games and activities.
Again, our students come from low income households, and they do not have the means to try new sports.
So when an opportunity comes that we can offer our students a chance to try new games, we do everything we can, but with a limited budget, that is not always possible. Most of our budget goes to replace broken equipment that we currently have, so new things tend to be over looked. This would be a great opportunity for our students to get a look at a new emerging sport in our area.
