"Learning is the most effective when it's fun." Peter Kline ---
Sphero - SPRK robotic balls ignite student imagination and curiosity! My students love a challenge and always want more. We get so excited when a concept finally clicks. "Just grew more dendrites!" we exclaim.
My students have been identified academically gifted and are eager to try new things.
With that in mind, this is still a very diverse group with a range of abilities and interests. But there is one thing upon which they all agree, my students love robotics and the use of technology. My school is a Title I school and home resources are often times limited. What we do together may be their only opportunity to explore technology. Due to the high potential of my students, I continuously emphasize problem solving strategies, real world application, peer collaboration, and preparation for college and a future in the 21st century.
My Project
The Sphero - SPRK robotic balls will introduce computer programming to my students. They will apply their critical thinking and logical reasoning skills as they learn to code. These robots will provide hands on exploration and expand the horizons of my students. Students will design codes for the robots to do specific tasks such as spin, change colors and/or directions. Students will also design programs for the robot to complete such as an obstacle course or maze. Learning the value and importance of teamwork will also be essential since the robots will be shared. Students will learn too the perseverance and attention to detail that is required in a career as a computer programmer.
Through your donation my students will have the opportunity to learn the new language of coding.
This will be a kick start for the development of something bigger for them. It may serve as an inspiration for a career choice. I am preparing them for jobs that do not exist today. Funding this project will change the lives of my students because it will give them the confidence to try something new.
