I teach a group of 22 first graders that love science. We have been utilizing our STEM lab this year and my student's look forward to going in there every time!
The students in my classroom are bright and excited to learn.
They have truly grown to love science and engineering as we have used our new STEM lab as often as possible.
Our school has gone through our state's STEM designation process and has been approved to call itself a STEM school. Teacher in our school, including myself, are working with the local university to get our STEM endorsement.
My Project
Every year we learn about life cycles of plants and animals. I would love to be able to hatch eggs with the students in my classroom. We would be able to talk about what is happening inside the egg and candle the egg to see if we see a chick growing inside. We would journal about what we see and learn throughout the process and help take care of the chicks once they hatch. As we wait for the chicks to hatch, we would learn about the life cycle of a chicken and how an incubator works and compare it to a hen sitting on it's nest.
This project will help encourage my student's interest in STEM and aide them in earning about life cycles.
Once the chicks have hatched, the will have opportunity to help care for baby chicks and teach them responsibility.
