My Students
With only 4 desktops computers in the classroom, the students do not always get a chance to work on them. My goal is to have my students reading where they need to be at the end of the year. We use our computers and online literacy subscriptions to motivate students and get them to enjoy reading.
I have 28 first graders!
With this high number of students, it is key to have engagement, especially when I am reading in small groups. When my students are engaged in fun activities, they work so hard and make me proud. Although my school is not a Title I school, we have many students that are from low income families. These families do not have access to the advanced technology that many others do. They are excited to use the computers in the lab and really enjoy our online subscription to Raz Kids, which is an online reading program that helps to motivate our young learners.
Our school also has a high number of ESOL (English as a second language) students that would benefit from using the iPad. In one case, we had a first grader who spoke no English. Having easy access to a translator would have been very useful!
My Project
As all students are, my students are highly motivated with rewards. I believe that the iPad will not only serve as an educational tool but also as a behavioral tool.
I would have the iPad as a literacy center for the students to utilize the different educational apps that are out there. Students can learn so much when they are exposed to different types of delivery. The iPad has endless amounts of useful and education apps. I have been doing my research and have found several that focus on word work, reading and math.
Technology is the future...I want my students to be exposed to every tool to further their education.
The iPad's will motivate and educate my first graders like a piece of paper cannot.
